Australia's LoRaWAN network

GeoWAN is rolling out public LoRaWAN networks across Australia, and provides the solutions, devices, connectivity and advice to put them to work. No coverage where you need it yet? Once your project is approved, we send you a GeoWAN gateway.

Solutions for councils, industry and farms

We provide everything you need to put sensors to work, from the first conversation to readings arriving in your systems.

Connectivity
Access to GeoWAN's public LoRaWAN network, and a GeoWAN gateway where there is no coverage yet.
Devices
Sensors, meters and trackers that work on the network.
Solutions
Complete setups built around your use case, from device to data.
Consultation
Advice on planning new IoT developments before you commit.
  • For councils and towns

Know which bins need emptying, which stormwater pits are filling and how much water each property uses, without sending someone out to look.

    • Water meter reading
    • Bin fill levels
    • Parking bay occupancy
    • Street lights, stormwater and flood levels
  • For industry and utilities

Watch tanks, pumps and cold rooms across a site, and find trailers and tools when they move.

    • Tank and pressure levels
    • Cold room temperature
    • Pump run hours
    • Asset tracking
  • For farms and stations

Check troughs, tanks and soil moisture across the property from your phone, without driving out to each one.

    • Water trough and tank levels
    • Rain gauges
    • Livestock and vehicle tracking

The network in brief

What to know before you choose devices or plan a project.

Devices
Any third party end device compliant with the LoRaWAN AU v1.0.3 specification.
Gateways
GeoWAN gateways are designed and tested to work with the GeoWAN network. Third party gateways cannot connect at this stage.
Gateway connection
Gateways connect to the internet through your existing internet provider, a 4G modem or a satellite terminal.
Coverage
Public networks are being rolled out across Australia. If there is no coverage where you need it, contact us. Once approved, a GeoWAN gateway is sent to you.
Access and pricing
Depends on your use case. Contact us with the details.

How the network works

Every reading takes the same path on a LoRaWAN network.

  1. A sensor sends a reading. It wakes, transmits and goes back to sleep. It is not paired with any particular gateway.
  2. Every gateway in range hears it. More than one gateway can pick up the same message.
  3. Gateways pass it on over their internet connection: an existing internet service, a 4G modem or a satellite terminal.
  4. The network server keeps one copy. It drops the duplicates and passes one on to your application.
